Vista activation cracked
March 1, 2007
There is an active thread at the Keznews forums (account needed), and a summary on its main page about the crack. It’s a brute force attack, so it could take some time but basically the cat is out of the bag. This has got to be seriously troubling for Microsoft because with a simple program and enough time you can self-generate a valid 25 digit activation key. So what’s that mean? A retail user could go buy a new copy of Vista, or a new machine with Vista pre-installed, get it home and try to activate it only to be told that they’re trying to use an invalid key.
