Save money shopping online

March 11, 2007

I refuse to buy *most* things in brick and mortar stores. The fact is you can get most everything for less when you shop online (just watch those shipping costs). There is of course eBay, but there are tons of other ways to save mega bucks online. Here’s a list of my favorites:

  • DealNews - Dealnews is literally a site listingnews on deals. Each day, dealnews reports the best deals available on computers, technology, gadgets, and other items you want to buy. Just about every purchase I make starts with a quick look here. You can also setup RSS feeds and email notifications for things you’re looking for so you can be notified when things go on sale/get coupons. My current laptop (Dell XPS Gen2) I got for 40% off retail by watching this site! Dealnews also has sister sites specific to categories: DealMac, her.Dealnews, Dealram, Dealcam, deal coupon, etc.
  • Pricegrabber- Even if I find a deal on Dealnews, I hit up PriceGrabber next. PriceGrabber is a shopping comparison tool that helps buyers find the information about products and merchants so they can get the best deal.
  • JungleCrazy - This site indexes things that are at LEAST 70% off on Amazon.com. The interface is wickedly simple to use, and it uses a tag based system to help you find the things you want.
  • RetailMeNot - Many online stores allow for a coupon or promotion code when you order to automatically assign discounts, deals and freebies (kinda like money for nothing). RetailMeNot.com is a place for finding and sharing these coupon codes.
  • Google - A great majority of online stores offer coupons, but they’re not always upfront about offering to give you one. Typically they send these to frequent customers or in mailing advertsements. BUT… you can get these as well just by using Google. It’s simple, go to Google and type in “myProduct coupon” (w/o the quotes) and you’ll find more coupon sites than you can imagine. The same works by just typing coupon, but you get less specific results.

Good luck shopping!
