American Idol – Sanjaya makes a little girl Ashley Ferl cry (with video)!

I have a dirty little secret… I’ve been watching American Idol again. They of course hooked me in with all the horrible performances that always start before the real singing begins. It’s like watching a car accident… you know it’s wrong but you can’t look away.

This season has a few outstanding performers. Most impressive are Melinda Doolittle and Lakisha Jones (these girls are like Motown dynamo’s), but Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis are really good as well. The stinker that won’t go away is Sanjaya Malakar. It’s not that he’s got a bad voice. His voice is actually pretty decent and he seems like a really good guy, but he lacks any kind of stage appeal.

The last episode Sanjaya had what is arguably is ONLY performance. It seemed a bit spastic at times, but he actually tried to rock out and put on the only really memorable performance since the show started. What made it most memorable though was the little girl (Ashley Ferl) busting out some serious tears. Rumors on the net say that she was “a plant by the producers. Ferl wasn’t even supposed to attend the actual taping, just the dress rehearsal. The producers saw her “cry so much at the rehearsal”, they gave her an aisle seat right up front for the live taping. They knew she would have her tearful reaction, and it would make for better television.” I think that little girl is gunna catch hell from friends for the rest of her life.

So if Sanjaya didn’t go… who was in the bottom two? Chris Richardson and Stephanie Edwards. Chris is the only other guy I think is really worth watching besides Blake. I was suprised to see him there and glad he didn’t get voted off. Also suprising to see in the botto two was Stephanie, who ultimately got cut. She’s note as good as the gals I mentioned above, but definetly shouldn’t have been in the bottom two. Ce la vi… I don’t understand American Idol viewers. Of course… I’m not into it enough to vote so I guess I can’t bitch tooooo much about it. In any event, it looks like we’re stuck with Sanjaya for yet another week.
