MySpace buys photobucket

May 8, 2007

Just a few weeks ago, popular social networking site MySpace blocked all videos hosted by digital media storehouse Photobucket.  Evidently the vast majority of all of Photobucket’s traffic comes through in the form of MySpace referrals, though neither company will comment on the matter.  With this recent bout of fighting between the two companies, the last thing anyone expected was a merger.  Well, that’s what just happened.  News Corp, the parent company of MySpace, shelled out the cash to pick up Photobucket, though it’s unclear whether or not they met the $300 million asking price.

So seriously, if I make something “cool” enough (tongue in cheek as MySpace sucks space based monkey ball - ok, ok, yes I have one too but who doesn’t!) that relies on MySpace, will News Corp buy you?
