You can personalize your operator name on the HTC Touch Pro with a handy little program made by a craft fellow over at XDA. It’s been said to work on all Windows Mobile devices but definetely works on HTC. It was made by a developer at xda-developers called NP9660.

Download the cab file here. Install on on to your main memory, not the SD card. It will prompt you what text you want to have in place of your operator name. That’s it. If you want to change the text, just go to Start>Programs>Personalizer.

Some people were having trouble with HTC Home being turned on after a soft reset. To work around it, open “Personalizer StartUp.mscr”. The last entry enabled HTC Home, changing the final value to “0″ fixed the problem.

Ok well ALMOST free, you pay a small shipping charge.

I don’t know what they get out of it, but FreeHeadset is offering to send you a headset you can use with your cell phone while driving. That could be important if you’re living in California on July 1–the date you have to go hands-free, or just convenient if you live anywhere else.

FreeHeadset says they do it to promote safety and claim to have shipped over 250,000 headsets. My guess is they hope you’ll opt to pay for a headset with more features than the freebies–but if you choose a free headset, you pay only $3.94 for shipping. It takes about five days to reach you. Check the FAQ for details. They didn’t have a free set for my HTC Touch, but I did find one for my wife’s LG Rumor. $4…. nice!

We are currently working on the ROM update for HTC Touch and the official release date is not finalized. However, we are targeting to release the update in first part of July. Once the update is officially released, We are going to make the update available on our ADP website and we will also be notifying our developer community via this forum.

Thanks,
Sprint Nextel ADP Team

Of course they didn’t say July of 2008 (after all the initially said it HAD GPS and then they said it’d be updated in Q12008). LOL. Seriously, the wait is out of control and I’m sick of Sprint and this experience has led me to want to switch carriers. Here’s to hoping we actually see it in July.

The post date was June 23rd, 2008 and you can find the post here.

Really?), built-in TV-out functionality, and a 3.2 megapixel camera. The full press release is below, followed by a bunch of images of this beautiful device.

“Taipei, Taiwan — June 4, 2008 — HTC Corp., a global leader in mobile phone innovation and design, today unveiled its advanced next generation business phone, the HTC Touch Proâ„¢. Bringing a beautiful new angle to mobile business productivity, the HTC Touch Pro utilizes similar styling and functionality of the highly anticipated Touch Diamondâ„¢ and introduces a variety of business-focused enhancements that make getting work done on the go quick and easy.

“The HTC Touch Pro and Touch Diamond have created a new generation of HTC touch devices that make the promise of the one-hand, one-touch mobile Internet a reality,” said Peter Chou, president and CEO, HTC Corp. “HTC Touch Pro is for those customers that demand the ease of use and enjoyment of TouchFLO™ 3D and want the styling of the Touch Diamond but also need the powerful mobile business experience that HTC delivers.”

“A New Dimension To Touch – One hand, one touch
HTC has taken a great leap forward in touch screen innovation with its 3D touch interface called TouchFLO 3D. TouchFLO 3D provides a stunningly intuitive way to zip through common tasks like messaging, calendar appointments or making calls with just one touch. Delve a little deeper to find that your music, photos, contacts and surfing the web are also responsive to the touch. In addition, the Touch Pro includes a new innovative touch-sensitive control for device interaction.

Making The Mobile Internet Useful and Fun
With the introduction of Touch Diamond and Touch Pro, HTC delivers an entirely new mobile Internet experience that utilizes broadband-like speeds with HSDPA 7.2 Mbps and HSUPA wireless connectivity. Committed to improving Web browsing, HTC provides a new customized mobile Web browser that enables easy viewing and effortless navigation of Websites in the way they are designed to be viewed on a PC. As part of this browsing experience users can zoom and pan Websites with one-hand and automatically view optimized content that has been specially created to fit the display. Turning the device sideways automatically rotates the web page view from a portrait to landscape view.

In addition to Web browsing, the Touch Pro includes an HTC-developed, YouTube application for watching a variety of user generated video content as well as including Google Maps for mobile for mapping and traffic data.

Unmatched Style With Complete Productivity
Like the Touch Diamond, Touch Pro is crafted with precision to fit comfortably in a user’s hand and brings together elegant touch screen response with the direct precision of HTC’s trademark sliding keyboard design. Introducing a new five-row QWERTY keyboard layout that makes typing-intensive tasks like composing email or working on Microsoft Office® documents quick and easy. Built-in TV-out functionality means users can deliver the perfect PowerPoint® presentation from the Touch Pro.

Bursting with Innovation
The Touch Pro delivers an unrivalled combination of features and functionality. The 2.8 inch display provides near-print quality viewing that enables beautiful Web browsing and viewing of photographs. The built-in camera includes an optical auto-focus lens that ensures the photos you take will be clear and consistent. Advanced wireless and auto sensor screen pivoting are just a few of the features that make the Touch Pro experience a stand out.

Engadget Chinese got their hands on an HTC Touch Diamond and compared it (visually) to the iPhone. HTC seems to be doing what Microsoft should have done a long time ago… making Windows Mobile fun, attractive, and easy to use. Plus the specs on this thing are wicked.

The Diamond is equipped with a beefy 528 MHz processor, 4GB storage inbuilt, HSDPA, FM Radio, 3.2MP camera. Unlike the other “Touch” GPS built in and working out of the box. Check out the overview of the device:

The Diamond runs on Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 6.1, Microsoft latest version of Windows Mobile. Unfortunately Microsoft hasn’t made many great improvements to the user interface of Windows Mobile, so what HTC has done is build in applications and customizations to work around the wonkiness of WM.These customizations are called TouchFlo 3D which adds the following sweetness to the device:

Rather than having to initiate it with a swipe, it replaces Windows Mobile’s standard Today screen

TouchFLO 3D also appears to be very well integrated in the OS. It’s less of an add-on and more of a new philosophy towards Windows Mobile. For example, the 5-way is also touch-sensitive so you can rotate your thumb around it to zoom in and out. It also demonstrates the power of Windows Mobile’s data structure — TouchFLO 3D has previews of emails, allows you to examine your pictures, and plays your music directly within the interface.

TouchFLO 3D tech is also built-into a custom build of Opera 9.5. But get this, no matter what your zoom level is, the text automatically wraps to the zoom. This is in contrast to the iPhone’s browser, which sometimes is unable to get the text to wrap properly.

TouchFLO 3D is, in fact, 3D in its animation effects. The Touch Diamond, unlike previous HTC devices, appears to be fully hardware accelerated and uses that power to full effect.
