Tony Snow (and others) have said the US Attorney firings were NOT political retaliation, that they were canned for performance reasons. Three months later (now), it turns out their performance was pretty decent. On camera a reporter asks Snow about how they said the firings were performance based and snow interjects saying they never said that. John Stewart gives a before and after:
