Microsoft announced the release of On{X}, and Android application that promises to automate your life.
Curiously released first as an Android application comes On{X} from Microsoft. Ya.. you can read that again… from Microsoft released on Android first. Don’t worry Windows Phone users it’ll be coming to you soon. So what exactly is On{X}? It’s a website and Android application combo that provides automation for Android phones via remote programming. So it’s like IfThisThenThat and Tasker/Locale combined. You simply select a recipe from their website, download it to your phone, and you’re off and running. Recipes are run via JavaScript, so you can inspect each recipe yourself, or code your own if you’d like. Your recipe is initial private but if you submit it, then it will be reviewed and can be shared with the public.
Recipes do thinks like remind you to get milk, text your wife when you leave the office, launch the music app when you are am walking, etc. The web interface is simple to use. Those with IFTTT will be familiar with the flow, and those who’ve used Tasker or Locale will be familiar with the functionality. The only bizarre thing is that you have to log in with a Facebook account. Why they chose Facebook over Google (since Android users have a Google account and the support OpenID) is beyond me. They do promise more ways to authenticate coming in the future. Check out the video below, hit the Play store to snag the free app, and then visit On{X} for recipes.
