A shiney new Powerocks Magicstick

I have recently been contacted to see if I’d like to do a review of a portable extended battery. I was JUST looking for a portable charging unit, so I was very excited when they said they would send me a unit to review!

Powerocks makes compact and powerful (and awesomely colorful) portable chargers so you can recharge your mobile devices, or really any USB device) on-the-go when life takes you away from an electrical outlet. I was sent a red Magicstick, which if you look up on Amazon has a average 4 star rating. I also heard that they’ve been picked by MTV for inclusion in this year’s official 2013  MTV Video Music Award VIP swag bag and commented that I might get the same one as Macklemore…… they replied they sent the same one! #AWESOME!

Here’s the skinny on a Magicstick’s specs:

• Smart push-button LED shows charge status. Blue light = 70% – 100% full, Green light = 30% – 70% full, Red light = 1% – 30% full

The Magicstick isn’t their only product. They have a very cool looking car charger, drool worthy dual charging Stone3 7800mAh Extended Battery (charge two devices at once), and wickedly powerful 12,000mAh Magic Cube.

I ended up going out of town for the weekend with my Magicstick in tow… as well as several power hungry devices. So I got to put it through the paces. Considering how much we’ve grown dependent on smartphones, a Powerocks Magicstick is something I consider an essential device. Not quite as stylish as the Powerflask, the Magicstick was stylish and hip non-the-less. I really appreciated the simple color coding on the tip that indicates how much stored power it had. Charging is not as fast as using a USB wall charger, but on par with what I’ve experienced with a USB 2.0 charger. I charged a phone, an iPad2, and part of another phone before it ran out of juice. Considering the first phone and the iPad2 were essentially dead… the Magicstick more than kicked ass.
