You can turn it off under Click Settings > Profile -> Show how many times your profile and content have been viewed of you don't wan it displayed.
I thought maybe, since Google started #AprilFools early this was a prank but according to this Google Support page http://goo.gl/CU1PKz that's not the case. So now under your profile pic is the view count It'll show how many times your content has been seen by other people, including your photos, posts, and profile page.

What is more important +Paul Spoerry …views or followers?

Oh good. A new way of bragging.

Did I break my Google+? I do not see this total count on my profile.
Tint Man says
Why are my numbers not this high? 🙁
Paul Spoerry says
Both… and neither +Anna Bennett. I suppose it depends on what you want out of Google+. Views could be more important for a product. Followers might be better if you're looking for more engagement. There are certainly those who are number hungry and the value of this will probably be debated all over plusland.
