Leave it to the Satanists

November 30, 2014 by Paul Spoerry 8 Comments

Satanists want to use Hobby Lobby decision to exempt women from anti-abortion laws

More and more these guys are leveling the playing field. I'm actually starting to think they're not actually people who worship "Satan" but in fact a bunch of non-made-up-story-believing people.

Interesting group, and somewhat different than LaVeyan Satanism, which is what I'm most familiar with.

The Satanic Temple seems to generally promote agnosticism. From their webpage:

"It is the position of The Satanic Temple that religion can, and should, be divorced from superstition. As such, we do not promote a belief in a personal Satan. To embrace the name Satan is to embrace rational inquiry removed from supernaturalism and archaic tradition-based superstitions. The Satanist should actively work to hone critical thinking and exercise reasonable agnosticism in all things. Our beliefs must be malleable to the best current scientific understandings of the material world — never the reverse."

    (Emphasis mine.)

+Tim Hunt Well that is unfortunately the common mistake that people make. And It's not that hard to understand why, since LaVey was Kim Kardashian of his time, only bald and had some more facial hair. Attention whore nevertheless…

And so many Hollywood movies just loved that. It's why Satanists are usually imagined as pentagram drawing, bloody ropes wearing weirdos who are looking for goat to sacrifice, rather than the sensible and selfthinking people they really are.

+Hysky Juhana to be fair a lot of self-proclaimed Satanist acted that way further confusing things. I know several people who call themselves Satanists who follow the stereotypes, probably because they didn't bother actually looking it up before just claiming the affiliation.

+Jess Nut Yes. That might be true… I don't hang with such people since I find them hilariously unbearable… There is nothing one can say or do to convince them to stop that stupid cosplay and get a grip.

Then again, who the fuck am I to tell them anything? Their life, their cosplay. If only they stopped calling themselves Satanists…

I never knew the difference since I only knew the media version and had no interest in researching it for myself. I lump all religious followers in the same boat so as long as you aren't hurting people and aren't annoying me with your religion I couldn't care less what you do with your free time.

"Lucien Greaves", definitely made up, and perfectly topical. Heh

Funny thing about true Satanists, if you read the Satanic Bible, it's all about living life to the excess and indulging all your desires. However there is a catch, and that's the funny part. You are not allowed to fulfill those desires if they come at the infringement and/or expense of others. So you might say that humans today are more closely connected morally to Satanists, than any of the major religions. 😉

LOL… well, most of us think this way "You are not allowed to fulfill those desires if they come at the infringement and/or expense of others. So you might say that humans today are more closely connected morally to Satanists, than any of the major religions." +West Kagle with the exception of the super rich, the banks, etc. 😉
