…he's an even shrewder businessman than I previously realized.

In the original script, it ends with her getting HIV and left. It didn't do well with test groups, so they changed it to the current happy ending.

She's still doing better than minimum wage though. Does this make her a "high class" hooker?

    +R. K. Thompson wow seriously?

No no, the high class ones will charge upwards of $5k for an overnighter.

Originally, when it was being developed at the Sundance Institute, it had a much bleaker ending.

Yep +Alex H Yong , it was never advertised, but the original script was much darker.

Joe Black is a similar rescript. Initially Joe was to be the 2nd coming of Christ, who fell in love and basically doesn't go through w/the whole armageddon. Big backlash w/religious groups, so they had to reshoot much of it with him as death. Wound up pushing back release for almost 2 years.

    +Bliss Morgan Agreed!
+R. K. Thompson That's crazy; but I probably would have liked it better as it would have been more realistic. EDIT: it would have been realistic.
+Ben Lloyd I think if you adjust for inflation from when the movie was released she is making hell–a-more than minimum wage.
+Paul Mallett That's an oddly specific piece of information you know. :O)'

She still got a lot of perks and a few nights off of her regular work. Not a bad deal

You are calculating a 24 hour work day. She doesn't have to work while sleeping. So if you change that to a 16 hour work day that's $31 an hour. Also in that six days she might only get a few actual jobs, so $3000 guaranteed income is better than what she would earn. She knew that he wasn't going to want blow jobs and sex 16 hours a day. He still has to go to work after all. So it's only a few hours of sex work a day and the promise to not take any additional work on the side while he's not around. So if you look at it as 3 hours of sex work a day over 6 days then she's getting $167 an hour. And gets to stay at a fancy suite, gets nice clothes, and some spa and cosmology treatments. It's a good deal. Plus he's not a junkie, abuser, or other less desirable partner.

    Well that escalated quickly…

Actually the clothes alone were probably another few grand.

Plus I'm sure he kept her flush with dental floss.
