I have a utility belt full of programming languages and a database of all my knowledge on databases... I practice code fu. Oh, I've also done actual Kung Fu, and have a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.
I run. I meditate. I dance. I blog at PaulSpoerry.com, tweet @PaulSpoerry, and I'm here on Google+.

I hate it when people say, "Oh, that's just the circle of life," or "you just have to let nature take it's course" when clearly humans have had a major hand in at least speeding this along, if not causing it entirely!
Yeah… I don't know that nature ever drove a Humvee on it's own. 😉
I can't suffer these propaganda shots anymore.
+Paul Spoerry I think if u browse Youtube long enough, u will see anything u can imagine. XD
Nice pic, but the Polar bear can swim 100 miles…in the frigged water, its how they hunt for fish…its the "oh no he's floating to his doom" people that end up being eaten by bears when they go to pet them, remember what happened to that bear hippie that went to go live with them. (tambourine punchline)
But they can't swim forever…they need to rest. The point is that the ice blocks are getting smaller and fewer, so they're forced to swim farther and longer.
Yeah fucking NASA and their fucking data and being all scientific and shit. http://nsidc.org/soac/sea-ice.html#seaice
Stupid National Climactic Data Center: http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/climate-information/analyses/monthly-global-climate-reports
And those clowns at the Department of Defense. Of course we all know they just want to go to war… ON CLIMATE CHANGE: http://www.defense.gov/releases/release.aspx?releaseid=16976
Clearly, it's all just propaganda.
+Paul Spoerry Ive learned to just disregard anything politically motivated, scientists can be paid off much like anyone else. A picture can tell any story a narrator wants it to, much like the news does..this has become a very mislead culture. The people like Al Gore live the life they protest against, Hippocrates trying to raise money for said lifestyle. This is why i always say " meh" to pics like this, its 99% of the time rubbish so people can gain something!
In genera, I completely agree +CatStarSTO, except that I've provided three very reliable sources (in just a single comment; one that shows time lapse satellite data) so to just disregard any "fact" as false because you don't want it to be true doesn't make you intelligent but quite the opposite. You should be a skeptic, but not to a fault.
+Paul Spoerry I dont see the need to insult me, but if thats your M.O. have fun. The scientists must have missed how the world goes through a natural cycle, its nothing we did or can change. A time of heat and a time of ice, This happened many times in the last few million years, and yes even before people walked on it. I remember scientists last year publishing an article on a new type of spider they found…the kind that me and my dad used to see as kids while fishing…way ahead of u college guys lol.
Does pollution bother me, yes my well water became polluted because of the coal mines are under my property. Its outta my hands and i just have city water now. but you cant dictate to people how to live I can only set the example.
As for this pic, Ice melts and then refreezes, it grows then breaks off, this happens every season nothing new here…sometimes animals climb up on top of them and people snap a picture and claim its the end of the world. XD ..usually for fund raising and politics!
The problem is these promo shots are not innocent and are actually harmful.
They promote and encourage climate change mitigation schemes and there is growing evidence that the vast majority are are just scams, taking out $3B from the economy each day through government subsidies, grants, loan guarantees, and exorbitant feed in tariffs rates – yet they mitigate nothing. The harm they do is they raise the cost of energy and energy costs underlies every component of commerce, whether it is the production of goods or the delivery of services. So in the final analysis they are just a redistribution of wealth scheme, sold to us as being full of good moral values.
And as far as the polar bears go, you owe it to yourself to do just a little bit of fact checking on this. Don’t make is so easy to spread the lies that are making these scams possible.
It was just supposed to be funny/silly and point to the fact that we're awesome at saving banks (not because we really want to but because the system is f'd up) but no so with our planet. I'm sorry that you're so sensitive about banks and/or fossil fuels that it caused this reaction.
As for mitigation schemes… If you're position is that it's simply better to do nothing and continue on our current path then we'll simply never agree. I'm a programmer and sometimes I have to try to build a solution to find out that the particular solution won't resolve the issue. That doesn't mean that you don't attempt to solve the issue because your attempt might fail. That sort of thinking will never create progress of any kind.

I know Paul, like you, I am also a software engineer and that has pushed me to pursue the truth and find out what is really going on here. I am livid that we are being played with by these Green scams. My electricity bill is going up because of them. Take a look at what is going on in Germany if you need an example. It has been going on long enough now that we have ample evidence of what is actually taking place so we no longer have to accept the sales pitch. It is very scary. Or look at the Ivanpah project in Las Vegas. It was supposed to generate 2.7gw but they are only generating less than 300mw annually and they have billion dollar government loan guarantees but are looking to the convert the loans to grants. They also generate 1/3 of their electricity by burning fossil fuels. Google is a partner in this one. Look at the trillion dollar offshore wind farm that Germany built. It has yet to produce, but it burns through fossil fuels to keep the turbines rotating and has millions of dollars a day in maintenance costs because the things are falling apart even before they go online. Or look at Spain’s solar industry, the worlds largest and try and figure out how it was able to sell a third of its electricity to the grid at night – yup, burning fossil fuels.
+Donald Farmer Solar and wind will never workout, coal works best for energy but the extraction is killing our land. Being your an engineer, could it be possible to use large fuel generators to put power into the plants instead of coal or nuclear energy? Ive also heard that emissions could be captured and filtered through a new system I read about in the 90's. This country holds just as much fossil fuels if not more then the middle east. This would give us a few hundred years to work on better solutions.
+CatStarSTO Are you talking about chimney scrubbers? They do exist. The real problem with our coal fired electricity generators is that they are so old and only get about 30% of the energy out of coal, the rest is wasted. The newer plants in Europe are achieving close to 100% and they are scrubbing out some of the bad chemical compounds. Think about it, the wholesale cost of electricity around the world is roughly $.03/kwhr largely due to the cost of coal. A more efficient power plant could drop that to .01/kwhr. And you are right, coal is abundant and cheap.
+Donald Farmer No, im hoping we can eventually do away with coal and nuclear actually. I mean the fuel from drilled oil. If they ran massive generators that ran on diesel to power citys then filtered the emissions and somehow broke them down, so they where not released directly into the air. I forget what it was called, i remember them talking about it a couple decades ago, and planned apply it to factory smoke stacks.
