Starwood is introducing a new app-powered, keyless entry program

November 3, 2014 by Paul Spoerry 5 Comments

Sounds cool, runs over bluetooth… my first question is: does it lock out after x number of bad password attempts? If not… I see a lot of rooms getting raided and massive theft.

That said, I'm a +Starwood Preferred Guest® (SPG), and despite a bad stay recently in the Kansas City one hotel I will always try to stay in an SPG/Four Points when possible.

Can't hardly be worse that the "smart" locks already in use.

There is a certain event I've thought about making one of these for… would be hilariously fun: http://blog.spiderlabs.com/2012/10/pentesting-hotels-with-pens.html

That's awesome. I've seen the circuit and code before but not in a pen form factor. We should build a few!

Aside from hijinks at said event, I'd like one just to test any hotel I stay at. It'd be fun to freak out the owners.
