Talib Kweli Flips Out On Don Lemon Over CNN's Ferguson Coverage

August 22, 2014 by Paul Spoerry 16 Comments

This is awesome… Talib Kweli came to Ferguson this week to participate in the protests and the CNN dude tries to get all defensive. Talib proceeds to run train on the "reporter" and calls them out on inaccurate coverage, shuts him down when he tries to interrupt him, and tells him what the headlines should have read.

To be fair I don't have TV so I have no idea how CNN's coverage has been (did they find the plane in Ferguson?) but Talib is pretty priceless in this interview.

How is he priceless for pouting about someone not saying hi, complaining about him only saying his name and insulting the same program that he wants to be on about a headline Don Lemon didn't even write?

I think it's pretty clear that he didn't give a shit if he was on CNN unless he was going to be allowed to speak.

If he didn't give a shit about being on CNN, he wouldn't have come equipped to debate about a CNN headline.

CNN clearly is not going to let anyone get their point across if it is negative. Rude reporter.

If the point is to insult the program, why would they?

Clearly to get an opposing thought across. That's the trouble with politics. Never open minded to having a calm and fair discussion. +Messagefrom Montie

But a calm and fair discussion isn't ranting about someone not saying hello, storming off when you don't get your way, complaining about him being on the phone or insulting the program you're on with a reporter who didn't write the headline.

You clearly watched a different clip. He didn't bring up the cold shoulder until after getting no chance to finish his thought.

He doesn't NEED CNN to get attention, he can get it whenever he wants. His albums are consistently in the top 10 on the rap and r&b charts. So as I said, he didn't give a shit if he was on CNN unless he was going to be allowed to speak. Do you even know anything about him? He's very active and outspoken on political/social issues. He's not an idiot rapper he's someone who's smart; given that he's a well known person it wouldn't be a stretch to assume he'd bone up on what the press was saying, during an explosive situation/event that he himself was at.

And a calm and fair discussion doesn't involve someone talking over you while you're trying to speak. Like +Mark Mccurdy said… you clearly watched a different clip.

Oh my gawd, now you're just flat out lying. What charts are you referring to? Talib Kweli has never been consistently in the top 10 on Billboard charts. "Get By" made it to the Billboard charts and there was a bit of a ruckus with Black Star, but this is not a chart-selling artist. He does do well, however, with the underground market. And yes, I have purchased and own quite a bit of his music and seen him live in concert. While he's a dreadfully boring performer, I respect his lyrics and his music. But when you don't NEED CNN, then you don't do the interview. Period. It's really that simple. He could've written a blog on Global Grind or wrote a song. He chose to go on CNN and act a clean ass. We'll agree to disagree, especially since you're just making stuff up at this point.

Oh my gawd; FACTS kinda suck when you're wrong:
Peak chart positions from 2002-2013 as reported by AllMusic and Billboard US R&B section: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talib_Kweli_discography#Solo_albums

So yeah, 5 out of 6 solo albums landing in the top 10 would mean that 83+% hit the top 10. But I suppose I'm just making up facts oh and making up how to do math huh?

Also, he didn't go just to get an interview on CNN, he'd been there for a week (http://mashable.com/2014/08/23/talib-kweli-ferguson-cnn-media).

hanging head You chose a user-generated site that ANYBODY can edit as your source? Why not actually go to the Billboard site? In the Top 100, "Get By" peaked at number 77 and stayed there for 10 weeks. That is NOT top 10. He did, however, reach number 16 on top rap songs and stayed there for 8 weeks. That is NOT top 10. My gawd, the level of mediocrity involved in your sourcing killed this entire conversation. I almost want to laugh, but I'm too busy looking at you with the WTF face. We're done talking. (By the way, I never said he went to Ferguson to do a CNN interview. He did CHOOSE to do an interview with CNN though.)

Yes I used Wikipedia, a user generated site that people can edit. If you'd bothered to click through before trying to slam me you would have seen that it links directly to the sources that clearly back up what I was stating. Sorry but the "mediocrity" here isn't coming from my side.
