The Dancing Traffic Light

October 27, 2014 by Paul Spoerry 14 Comments

smart believes that smart ideas can turn a city into a better place. Like a dancing traffic light that makes people wait and watch rather than walk through the red light. Spoiler: 81% more people stopped when the light was dancing! FOR more safety.

About Paul Spoerry

I’m a groovy cat who’s into technology, Eastern Thought, and house music. I’m a proud and dedicated father to the coolest little guy on the planet (seriously, I'm NOT biased). I’m fascinated by ninjas, the Internet, and anybody who can balance objects on their nose for long periods of time.

I have a utility belt full of programming languages and a database of all my knowledge on databases... I practice code fu. Oh, I've also done actual Kung Fu, and have a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.

I run. I meditate. I dance. I blog at PaulSpoerry.com, tweet @PaulSpoerry, and I'm here on Google+.

I'm currently work for IBM developing web enabled insurance applications for IBM and support and develop a non-profit called The LittleBigFund.

Very cool. However, and I hate to be the one to bring it up, I get the feeling that after a while, folks are still going to be watching the little dancing man, but cross against the light anyway. Then they are not only crossing at the wrong time, they will be doing so with out even looking where they are going. Don't tell me no, because we all know that people are that dumb.
Don't get me wrong, I still like the idea, It's just that these stupid thoughts always come to my mind. I can't help it. Guess I just have a defective thought process. 😜

+West Kagle We were just out of town for a wedding, the hotel had a sign under the sprinkler system that said not to hang clothes, bags, etc off the sprinkler as it would cause them to go off and flood the room. That means… at least one person (or more) flooded a room that way. So yes… some people are dumb. I also crossed my mind and I thought it'd be super effective at first, but people might get used to it. But it's all people generated, so theoretically it'd be different each time which might keep peoples attention. shrug

+Ann nathan Deonarine The first part of your comment was nice. You get 10 points for that. The second part where you get insulting causes a 10 point reduction. You're still at 0 now.
