When TMZ released video of Ray Rice brutally knocking out Janay Palmer, national outrage ensued. But not everyone condemned this incident of domestic violence. Many people, mostly conservatives, praised it and said Palmer deserved it. That includes South Carolina Republican troll Todd Kincannon, who wins the prize for worst tweet about domestic violence ever.
So much of the rest of his Twitter sickens me as a human being.
JD Davis says
It's either bullshit, someone hacked his twitter, or a very bad attempt at sarcasm.
Kyle Reyes says
I just went through and read his twitter, that's not even the worst thing he has said…
Wow, just wow…
Chris Norman says
Todd Kincannon is just one of many hyperbolic shock jocks on twitter
Paul Spoerry says
He has a string of shit all over his twitter feed that should make make us collectively expel him from the human race.
Brian Kiser says
What a moron he is for saying that, can I see a list of all the other known Conservatives that said something like this. You said it was mostly Conservatives, so I assume you can show that, unless of course that remark was born in your ass!
Chris Norman says
Brian sort of has a point, Paul.
I wouldn't let your hatred of different thinking people cause you to stereotype millions of people just because you encountered a troll or genuine asshole. You may want to attribute said individual's behavior to a general political ideology as some sort of selective reinforcement, but in the end, finding comfort with and justification for hatred by compartmentalizing everything wrong with the world or people as broadly held believes of ideologically different people is genuinely unhealthy. There are all types of people of different character who hold all types of political beliefs.
Implying that people on the right endorse domestic violence isn't just wrong, it makes you look bad. The whole "wrestling the pig in mud thing…"
Paul Spoerry says
I intended to include the source (check my posts/comments; I'm a very cite your source kinda dude); I tracked it down and I've added it above. The top portion (less the "… sickens me as a human" part) was from the source not me. The tweet is straight from his Twitter account (https://twitter.com/search?q=todd_kincannon). The comments I'd made about his string of tweets were specific to his string of tweets and not anyone else.
A few other gems of his, also quoted in the article:
"I've gone 12,146 consecutive days without beating my significant other. Where's my fucking prize?"
".@AshelyKincannon somehow psychicly figured out I was at 4% battery and brought me a charger. I gave her a get-out-of-beating-free card."
While it wasn't my intention to contrast a particular political ideology with domestic violence that did make me re-read the article and the see that "…it was Republicans who opposed renewing the Violence Against Women Act." which appears to be true (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Violence_Against_Women_Act). So… I dunno, maybe there is a wide brush that needs to be painted there on that subject.
Paul Spoerry says
WOWZA this guy is a d-bag of epic proportions.
"A number of media outlets detailed a range of inflammatory messages he posted to his Twitter account in 2013, which include mocking Florida shooting victim Trayvon Martin and saying that transgendered people should be placed in a concentration-style camp. He also posted to his Twitter account that it's a shame Michael Prysner, an Iraq war veteran turned anti-war organizer, "didn't come home in a body bag." His Twitter account was suspended in late 2013. In early 2014, he created a new Twitter account named "Todd__Kincannon", on which he allegedly made sexist and homophobic statements, many referencing Texas gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis in defamatory ways. The traditionalist conservative author Rod Dreher highlighted tweets in which Kincannon, identifying himself as a Southern Baptist, labeled Dreher (who is Eastern Orthodox) a "papist" and compared infant baptism to Chinese water torture. He also received backlash for boasting to the father of Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl that he would attempt to convince the attorney general to pursue capital punishment for his son. In September, 2014, Kincannon tweeted that football player Ray Rice was justified in beating his fiancé." — http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Todd_Kincannon
Chris Norman says
Todd K is infamous on Twitter.
Surely you don't actually believe that you can accurately determine someone's beliefs based on something so nuanced as legislation… LOL
Chris Norman says
Regardless, I would again encourage you to see move beyond blind hate when trying to coexist with people who think differently. Sure, attributing the absolute worst intentions and beliefs to people who are different insulates one from any challenging concepts and ideas; but I'd opine that it certainly limits knowledge.
I wouldn't say the trolling Todd K is any more prototypical of any ideology any more than than any other troll.
Paul Spoerry says
Again, I didn't cite the source the first time. That was my bad… I usually do and just slipped it this time… the entire first portion of the post is FROM the article, which I've now added, and not me.
Maybe you're speaking in generalizations but if you're speaking directly at me +Chris Norman I don't insulate myself from people with different views. I adore having thought out discussions on a wide rage of topics. I don't mind having them where I can be the opposing argument even. I can even simply play devils advocate for the purpose of the discussion. I simply look at it this way: either they will convert me, I will convert them, or we'll both have walked away solidified in our view by verbally sparring over the subject.
There are of course exceptions… if someone makes the claim the Earth is 5,000 year old and that evolution is "just a theory" (because they don't know what the word theory means when used in a scientific context) then yes, I will insulate myself from them. If you mean insulating from bigotry, sure, I do that too. While I loved the Boy Scouts when I was young, my kid doesn't get to take part because of their stance on homosexuals. And yes, he knows that I loved it when I did it, that I'm sad he doesn't get to, and that the reason is their stances. One of my closest friends is gay; all it took was pointing out they would exclude him purely because he has a boyfriend instead of a girlfriend and my kid was like, "yeah screw them… that'd really dumb".
