The Xbox One Media Player is shaping up to be awesome

August 15, 2014 by Paul Spoerry 5 Comments

The new player will support playback of both files from USB and local networks via DLNA. Most awesomely, it will support a boatload of codecs—including DivX, Xvids, MKVs, and even animated GIFs (really? dunno that I need that one by Xvbid and MKV is certainly welcome!).

All things, it seems, that should have been there at launch.   One day +Microsoft, one day…

Agreed. If they want to be the center of my living room, don't make me require Plex. Still… glad to finally have it.

I think I'd be game for a Plex app on Xbox, though.  I don't know why… I use the Chromecast for all that stuff now anyway.

Either the latest Chromecast update or the last XB update has made it so I can't stream music or YouTube vids to the Chromecast plugged into the back of my XBOne. It sucks. Still works for movies and whatnot though. BTW, someone IS porting Plex to the Xbox One; saw it on the Plex forums not to long ago.
