Apple Watch will only last 2.5 hours with heavy use

Apple targets for Apple Watch battery life revealed, A5-caliber CPU inside
Although Apple has said that the Apple Watch will need to be charged nightly, the company has not disclosed any details on how long the wearable’s battery will last. For the first time, people with…

According to 9to5mac, the Apple Watch the battery is looking at just 2.5 to 4 hours of "active application use" before it dies. Granted, most people aren't going to be full-on using it as their primary device… but I could certainly see people dorking around for 2.5 hours on the thing.

"As a point of comparison, the Moto 360 easily lasts a full day of mixed-use. Our own Eric Limer's watch still had a little under half of its battery left after about 16-hours of wear. Even the Samsung Gear S, which is essentially a full-fledged phone for your wrist, can go a full day easy. And of course, the Pebble Smartwach, which is admittedly a very different beast, can last close to a full week on a single charge." – http://goo.gl/0qXCQ8

  5. Paul Spoerry says

Same here +John Griffith. I'm not an Apple guy but this seems like an odd play. I mean I get that they want it powerful enough to not seem like a hobbled piece of junk, but the one thing Apple people could always hold over Android folks is that battery life on an iPhone was way better. shrug

  6. John Griffith says

    January 22, 2015 at 3:44 pm

Though I detest the closed ecosystem I always think of apple as making things with great utility that just work. Cludge. +Patrik Söderström check out the Onion video on that topic. Funny as hell.

    January 22, 2015 at 4:40 pm

2.5 to 4 hours of "continuous" on screen use is pretty accurate and falls in line with 1st gen Android Wear watches. However, the screen won't be on the entire time, nor will it be displaying a completely white display, with every pixel lit up. As an OLED display, most pixels won't be lit and therefore not eating battery.

Expect a days worth of typical use, which is less than gen 2 Android Wear watches are seeing now.

  13. Marek Góral says

    January 22, 2015 at 4:40 pm

yeah, so it's enough time to flash out in public that you have an apple watch with the shirt sleeves pulled up and that's it, thank you very much

  14. Eddy Sarmiento says

    January 22, 2015 at 4:41 pm

    +Lloyd M

That's what most here saying the apple watch suck can't comprehend. We are not even sure what's the actual battery like etc etc.

  15. Dan K says

    January 22, 2015 at 4:59 pm

This stuff is mind-numbing on Google+. The Moto 360 could not last 2.5 screen on time. It couldn't even last a full day "mixed use". Setting it up, when it's continuous, it goes from 100% to 30% in an hour. I had it, I returned it. Sony Smartwatch 3 lasted much longer. If the Apple Watch does not last a long work day without question, then it's trash. We won't know until it's here.

  16. Eddy Sarmiento says

  20. Paul Spoerry says

    January 22, 2015 at 5:21 pm

According to Gizmoda the Moto will last a full day with mixed use. According to Android Authority you can get 16-18 hours with the screen continuously on (http://www.androidauthority.com/first-30-days-moto-360-565826/).

According to Apple sources the Apple Watch can expect to see 3.5 hours of standard app use.

Didn't anyone read the memo? At launch for the best experience with this first gen product you will need two units. One on your wrist and another on charge. You are recommended to swap at 12 hour intervals or if you can every 8 hours.

People, we buy Apple products because we LIKE and APPRECIATE them. Everything has its own flaws. And if you don't like them, well, then don't buy them. You can't just say they're bad because it's different from what you like.

  43. Earnest Hill says

    January 22, 2015 at 11:54 pm

2.5 hours is about right for an apple watch. They still haven't made the battery last to long for heavy use on their phones. Which makes it not worth buying it. I'll let you rich kids buy it so they can improve it. Lol. I don't need to get it first! Lol.

Sony brought the same shape with its SmartWatch 3 SWR50 (4GB ROM, 512MB RAM, 5.0L, 2-3 Days Battery Life) and the internet boasted about its ugliness like its somewhat a law or a good deed to curse it heavly… An even uglier, blatantly poor shape comes from Apple with only 2.5 hours of battery life, but the people are going ga ga over it and would sell their arm and kidney for it… Because its Apple, right…??? Yeah, right… :s

  49. Stark Jones says

    January 23, 2015 at 4:39 am

As an owner of a Moto360 I can confirm that the battery life is now up to par with other smart watches. I'm regularly getting estimated usage of over a full day, and in fact often have just over 40% charge left when it goes on the dock at night after 17 or 18 hours of mixed use with ambient mode turned on. 19 hours of 'mostly passive' use is not enough in my opinion, and couple that with the ugly look (we could be charitable and call it retro styling at a pinch) and it's a non starter in my book. The combination of tap, swipe and crown usage make it too fiddly (although don't get me started on the Samsung Orbis proposed control schema) and from reports so far it doesn't seem to do much that Android Wear can't do

You seriously don't make any sense. But what do you expect from two blinded android users. +Aleksandar Nikoloski Ha. calls me retarded yet you can't even construct a proper sentence.
Calls me a looser Admits that he does nothing but bash Apple users.
States that I have an "Apple brain" Yet his own brain is that of an 11yr old. Heck, a 10yr old has more brains than this homophobic dick.

+Aleksandar Nikoloski Oh, so you've finally realized that you're an idiot? Just look at your profile picture, you look like you're about to abduct a child right now.

+Aleksandar Nikoloski You just proved that you're retarded. I've said multiple times that I don't own an iPhone, so that shows that your tiny mind can process many things. "Please don't make yourself look dumb what a looser" hahaha. I can assure you that I can never make myself look more dumb than you. P.s, why are you looking through my profile? Weirdo.

+Aleksandar Nikoloski You feel for me? Aww, I feel for you too. I've never met an adult who can't spell. What kind of mental illness do you have? "you think you are smart buy you are not smart" firstly, you didn't even spell that sentence right, and secondly, I know more than you ever will about technology. How do I know this? Because for starters, your profile states that you work at "Nexus". You actually think Nexus is a standalone company. That right there shows that you're stupid. But oh no I'm "embarrassing myself" hahahahah get a life you frickin asshole. Why do you act tough on the internet? Can you not act tough in real life? I'm sure you just get your ass beaten each time xD. You're a little bitch. Deal with it.

+Aleksandar Nikoloski "old overpriced tech" is that why Apple devices are among the most popular and fastest devices around? But oh wait, you wouldn't know this. Why? Because you're an idiot and you don't look at facts. Facts are indicating that you're nothing but a complete and total retard. You're contradicting everything you say and you're just sound more and more like the average android user each time.

+Aleksandar Nikoloski when I write "expected to last" it means "life expectancy of each battery cell" . Usually acid batteries wear out after 3yrs and a similar wear time for rechargable lithium-ion, from my experience.
