How Android Is Becoming the New Windows

How Android Is Becoming the New Windows
It’s more nuanced than you think.

I've said this forever… the problem with Apple long term is that they continue their position of being the device manufacturer. Google, like Microsoft before it, runs on a giant array of devices and this is ultimately what propelled them to dominance even when the competitors had (sometimes) better products.

I think the real question now is will Google become the new Microsoft or will Microsoft become the new Microsoft. Windows still powers over 90% of desktop PCs worldwide.IF they can get this Windows on all devices strategy right and can get going on mobile they could remain the dominant force (I know they've been trying… but historically MS sucks until at least their third revision and then it gets good and usually dominates).

MS is helped greatly in their efforts, by their vast collection of Android patents. So Microsoft is working to position itself to win, regardless of if it is windows or Android that dominates.

Not just via patents (though certainly through that as well) but their expansion into the app ecosystems of other platforms too +Noel Beale!
