This Judge Cited John Oliver in a Court Decision
A circuit court judge just took the “John Oliver effect” to a new level
I bet he just did a mic drop.

He's a good export, better than Piers. Haha
I still think that Mr. Oliver is a talentless hack.
……but to each his own.
I'll take him as my own… his commentary on the later part of the show are spot on.

Some may really like him, like I said, to each his own. I've seen his show and I stand by my remarks. He's not particularly funny, so as a comedy show it's a flop, and as for political commentary he's about as sharp and accurate as a 30 megaton devise.
That said, his show, being a comedic political satire, does the most epic face plant I have ever had the unfortunate privilege of seeing.
Now before a get a ton of hate form all his fanboys, I have to say I have not see more that a few of his shows. So, maybe I'm wrong (it has been know to happen…….a lot). Show me I'm wrong.
Yeah not sure which ones you've seen but her's certainly not a flop

I wasn't really interested in hearing about any of the accolades he may have been given or the public popularity of his show (we both know that the public will and does lap up the most idiotic drivel ever to see the light of day i.e. 'Keeping up with the Kardashians'.)
I was more interested seeing examples of his show that dispel my current impression of him. I also have to say that I don't have to agree with or like him to have my view changed. I didn't particularly like John Stewart, nor did I see eye to eye whit him often, but I have a very different opinion of Mr. Stewart than I do of Mr. Oliver.
Yeah but the public doesn't even put them in the same league +West Kagle. Kardashians 2.8: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1086761/?ref_=nv_sr_1 versus the 9.2 for Oliver, and the only awards they've won (after 7 seasons) are Teen Choice Awards: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keeping_Up_with_the_Kardashians#Awards_and_nominations whereas Oliver has writers awards, a Peabody, an Emmy, Critics Choice awards, etc and he's only had one FULL season and is into his second.
As for specifics… not sure how I'd convince you without recapping each episode which we both know would be a silly waste of time when you could just watch it. I think one example that might dispel the current impression is that he was cited by a judge on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals regarding “insular cases” — the series of early 20th century cases establishing that constitutional rights do not automatically apply to U.S. territories.

I was only using the Kardashians show as an example of mindless tripe the idiot-box airs round the clock. I also don't expect a recapping of every show he's done. Just give me one or two of his show's episodes that you think are particularly engaging, well-written, and well-hosted (I say two because, as I am fearing, that may be all I can endure watching, based on what I've seen of the show).
Whatever you suggest I'm sure I can find somewhere on the internet to watch. As I mentioned, I don't need to agree with the position of the show or it's host, just that the show is well put together, and that Mr. Oliver is not liked just because he expounds for the liberal-progressive crowd. Meaning He makes me really think and become engaged while siting in front of the electric nanny (I want more of a funny Dick Cavett than a serious Jerry Springer, if you get what I'm driving at).
+West Kagle Net neutrality was a big one where he unpackaged the boring and confusing topic of net neutrality in a digestible way so viewers could understand what was really at stake with those confusing "fast lanes." If net neutrality ended, telecom companies would be able to charge users a premium for faster Internet connections. The FCC's commenting system was overwhelmed with more than 45,000 new comments that came within a day of Oliver's net neutrality segment. https://youtu.be/fpbOEoRrHyU

He dug into the ridiculousness of televangelism and the tax exempt status of churches. He went so far as to show how easy it is to create one and how little oversight there is of it by creating Our Lady of Perpetual Exemption (he gives away the donations received): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7y1xJAVZxXg
Those are just a few… I think the surveillance one following the Snowden stuff was pretty good as was the segment on student debt.
I'll take a look. who knows, maybe I'll change my mind.
