I simply don't understand how we, as Americans, are able to put such pressure on foreign countries to the extent that we can get them to literally police the internet and take down websites.

It may be that the site is responsible for quasi-legal behavior. Still, it's censorship to block access to information. Ridiculous.

While kickass.to hosts a lot of "illegal" content, a torrent tracker doesn't hold anything… so I'm not sure how they can even be liable or taken down.

America can block sites at the DNS level and it would whipe it out for any internet user that doesnt already know the IP. A lot of countries go via the US in one way or another. Its the nuclear option, but it might help the US being able to apply pressure.

They can block the trackers, but with torrent magnet files I doubt they could stop the torrenting.
