LogMeIn buys LastPass password manager for $110 million | Ars Technica
LogMeIn promises to preserve LastPass brand, with expanded capabilities.
Call me skeptical but +LastPass is my near and dear to my heart (search my posts… I recommend it over and over). While +LogMeIn was a decent service they pulled the rug out from under their "LogMeIn Free" users in the past. One of the nice things about recommending LastPass is that the basic web version is free… and then it's an inexpensive (IMHO) $12/year if you want expanded features like mobile, etc.
Steve Vance says
Shit. Count down to pop up ads every time you fill in a username & password begins now.
Mark Mccurdy says
It will recommend passwords linked to advertisements.
Neal Jacob says
Aaack! I use +LastPass several times a day!
Steve Vance says
I guess I'll ride this out, just checked, I'm subscribed until well into 2017 which I'm sure by then a yearly Premium will go from $12/year to probably $49/100 passwords used
Paul Spoerry says
Same here +Steve Vance… it's such a solid product I hope they don't screw it up.
Neal Jacob says
My Premium subscription is up for renewal in November. I guess I'll see what's going on at that time. LastPass is a better alternative to +RoboForm Password Manager . Other than using the password manager built into Chrome, are there any other Cloud based solutions?
Paul Spoerry says
+Dashlane is supposed to be nice +Neal Jacob but the premium stuff is $40/yr (versus the $12/year LastPass charges).
Petr Pinkas says
you may try Sticky Password. $19.99/year and now with 50% off
Neal Jacob says
+Petr Pinkas I'm guessing that +Sticky Password is your product or that you work for them. Why should we use Sticky Password? What makes it so great? Why should I switch to it from +LastPass Password Manager (other than the fact that +LastPass was just purchased by +LogMeIn )
Petr Pinkas says
+Neal Jacob you're guessing absolutely right. We offer WiFi sync – your data never leaves your device. We also offer offline approach for those who are interested. Lifetime licensing could be another reason why to choose us, plus support of more web browsers and windows apps. We are covered on PCMag and selected as the Editors Choice: pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2476629,00.asp and we give part of our income to endangered Manatees.
Neal Jacob says
+Petr Pinkas Does it work with Chrome OS devices? Does it support 2FA?
Petr Pinkas says
+Neal Jacob unfortunately no. 2FA is in the roadmap and should be ready in up to 2-3 months. At this point we have only PIN authorization of new browsers you want to use.
