+Bonnie gamble the reason he is pulling out is because those streaming services do not pay what they should be in royalties.

He is not the only one. Taylor Swift and a whole host of other have done the same. I don't blame them. They put in the hard work of making the music and touring to promote the sales, by they aren't getting what is their.

I am not knocking their hustle.

+Bonnie gamble would you like to work for free? His money also gives the 352 employees a check he owns his own mega film and sound studio, his own label and distribution. So beyond the fact that he will not get his money, his employees will not be able to get paid. This move is for way more then his personal losses, it is other people's livelihoods. He has talked about it in the interview he gave.

Die hard fan of 37 years and hate this but blame the music companies for not wanting to pay the artists what they should. I'm sure we have all the CD's so everything is good.

The whole paradigm of the music industry needs to shift. We are using the same royalty system from before digital music. There needs to be a system created for today's demand of new media.

+Paul Spoerry how do you weigh in on this?

I think Prince, Taytay, Metallica, etc all need to STFU while I cry them a river. Terrestrial broadcasters don't pay per play…. in fact AM/FM doesn't even pay performers or sound recording copyright owners. Radio airplay is considered a public performance. Public performances generate performance royalties for songwriters. Now sometimes the artists is one of the songwriters but not always. So I fail to see what all their bitching about not making enough money off of a new medium is all about. The issue isn't new services providing new ways for people to consume media. In fact, I'd argue I've been turned onto more artists that I'd have never heard of because of streaming services. Which in turn [ut money in those artists pockets. Ever hear of Pomplamoos? (if not they're awesome)… I only know of them because of YouTube… when they came to town I went to go see them. Money in their pocket.

Artists have always made their lion share of their money off of performances, tshirts, posters, and other schwag. I think their complaints make them look like spoiled brats.

His music is decent, but I've always thought Prince was sort of a flake (and an arse).

I think he's immensely talented. His first album 'For You', he supposedly produced, arranged, composed and played all 27 instruments on the recording. Now some of those might just be different kinda of keyboards or guitars or something but it's still really impressive. I do think he's sort of an arse tho.

The most talented artist of his era, without question.
