Canada sets universal broadband goal of 50Mbps and unlimited data for all
$750 million fund created to connect rural and remote areas.
Contrast this with the incoming Republican FCC folks Trump is appointing that want to gut out net neutrality (and the FCC in general).
With this decision, high-speed broadband in Canada is now treated as an essential technology similar to voice service. The Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) is saying all Canadians should be able to purchase home Internet with 50Mbps download speeds and 10Mbps uploads, and they should have the option of purchasing unlimited data.
Additionally, CRTC is setting the wholesale rates of Internet access and data. Big Canadian telcos are already mandated to sell wholesale access to smaller ISPs which in turns creates competition beneficial to the user. Again… contrast this to what the newly Republican appointed FCC guys want to do – allow massive mergers, allow bandwidth caps, and prioritized data.
