Is that a screenshot of the actual FB app? Did they really say smaller then usual?
The battery drain is what stopped me from using it, I switched to an app called "Metal" a long time ago. Whilst not as feature rich, battery life is more important to me than the latest cat meme and "look at me" photos.

+Paul Snedden I use Metal as well. Though a lot of what it offers you can even get if you let mobile Chrome handle notifications. But I'm with you on battery life and… I cannot underscore the performance difference it made on my tablet. A GAMING tablet no less… I was floored.
