Project Fi Adds US Cellular to Gain More Coverage and Speed | Droid Life
Project Fi added a third network today in US Cellular. That means Project Fi users now have access to three different networks, further enabling the ability of Fi to get you on the best connection at all times. For those not familiar with US Cellular, just know that it’s one of the larger mobile networks …
Google’s Project Fi cellular service is actually an MVNO (mobile virtual network operator) that piggybacks on existing networks to bring service to your cell. Now they’re working with US Cellular to bring you more coverage and speed.
US Cellular is the fifth largest mobile network in the country and is available in 23 states, so their addition to Project Fi’s coverage could be a substantial improvement for some users. Project Fi already works on the backbones of T-Mobile and Sprint and adding US Cellular as a third carrier should help fill some coverage gaps.

I received that email and had a smile from ear to ear. I love the way Google Fi is working and I hope they get more adoption. One thing which would help out a lot, I think, is if they'd open it up to more devices. I love my Nexus 5X, but recent model phones should not be a problem and few people are going to want to have to swap phones for a service (unless they are just that pissed off at their current carrier).

+Brian Tomlinson Yeah I ditched my OnePlus for the 5X but I did it all for the price. Since I work remote I'm almost ALWAYS on wifi. So after I get $$$ back for not using the full 1 gig of data my bill is like $25. I'm WAY cool with that. I think given that there is more at play with being a MVNO that I can see them wanting to control the ecosystem for the time being. However, I think to stay competitive at some point they'll want more devices, even if that means demanding a pure Android version.
