Obama’s Call to Expand Social Security Shows Sanders’ Clout
President Barack Obama’s surprise call to expand Social Security highlights a populist shift in the U.S. political landscape that has been propelled by the campaign of Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.
Two things:
1) Yup… Sanders. And despite the ever shrinking odds he's staying in. Why? Because he's still pushing his agenda.
2) I think this article title doesn't even really reflect the larger message here. Obama twice said he would strike a deal with Republicans who said they wanted to reduce Social Security benefits. Each time they had a 'No I only want exactly what I want, no compromise, so I'll take my ball and go home' attitude. Couple the GOP's "no" to everything Obama says with Sanders' populist messages and blamo… ripe for the tide to turn.
