Secret Service says guns won't be allowed at GOP convention

March 29, 2016 by Paul Spoerry 3 Comments

Secret Service: No guns inside GOP convention
The Secret Service says guns won’t be allowed into the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland this summer for the Republican National Convention, despite a petition pushing for it.

No why on Earth would guns not be allowed? Trump has declared he would eliminate gun-free zones "… on “my first day” in the White House (http://goo.gl/iTR90q). Cruz has also been a vocal opponent of gun-free zones (http://goo.gl/k12wz5). So why oh why would the Secret Service not want to allow firearms to be carried by legal gun owners? What could they know that we don't?

U.S. Secret Service public affairs spokesman Robert Hoback said:

"Title 18 United States Code Sections 3056 and 1752, provides the Secret Service authority to preclude firearms from entering sites visited by our protectees, including those located in open-carry states. Only authorized law enforcement personnel working in conjunction with the Secret Service for a particular event may carry a firearm inside of the protected site.

The Secret Service works closely with our local law enforcement partners in each state to ensure a safe environment for our protectees and the public. Individuals determined to be carrying firearms will not be allowed past a predetermined outer perimeter checkpoint, regardless of whether they possess a ticket to the event."

Well, arguably, Trump has declared he can kill someone in public and it wouldn't effect his poll numbers 😉
