Two extensions released to report fake news sites

November 16, 2016 by Paul Spoerry 20 Comments

This Chrome extension will warn you when you visit a fake news site
Fake News Alert flags misleading sites across the internet.

The "Fake News Alert" Chrome extension, created by New York magazine journalist Brian Feldman, joins the B.S. Detector Chrome extension launched Tuesday that identifies hoax news articles on Facebook.

Both extensions rely on a manual list of sites likely to contain false information presented as news.

Fake News Alert uses a list of misleading websites compiled by a media studies professor. The list includes hoax sites like Breitbart and InfoWars as well as satirical sites like ClickHole that could confuse some readers.

Anybody else find it interesting/frightening that Breitbart is considered bogus by both of these and yet its chairman, Stephen K. Bannon, helped run Trumps campaign. Then on Sunday, Trump named Mr. Bannon as his chief White House strategist and senior counselor.

This makes me laugh. Main stream media is doing damage control. They have lost all credibility.

If I ran the universe, I think I'd be a prankster and make this itself be fake news. 😀
(you really, really, don't want me running the universe!)

Not true. I just went to CNN and I did not get a warning. Doesn't work at MSNBC, NBC, ABC, or CBS either. I am uninstalling as I did not get a warning at the NY Times either.

The MSM doesn't what to bring up the Fairness Doctrine.
But they think social media should be censored

Fuck the internet is filled with morons. It doesn't block Fox News either you asshats as it's a legit (kidna… at least as much as MSNBC) news source. Whereas you've got utter bullshit like Breitbart that isn't even close to reputable news.

Also… had you read through the links you can see how they determined the complete shit ones… it's based on media studies by professor Melissa Zimdars and her list of unreliable or misleading websites.

Additionally, if you'd done two fucking minute of research the code is freely available here https://github.com/bfeldman/fake-site-alert. So should you want to you can even add your own to it's list so that you can continue to live in your idiot alt-right echo chamber.

+Paul Spoerry EVERY "reputable" news site said Clinton would win. Sorry, you cannot win this argument. Don Lemon is as reputable as Cleo the psychic.

Will have to go look and apply my own elbow grease to finding out one tin soldier bot first thing coming to mind is song line "tin soldiers and Nixon coming"

+Truth Monger. rolling eyes All forecasts are predictions. That's entirely different than reporting based on researched facts… or the opposite where they simply make shit up.

+Scott FW you are not listening to the song! It tells of government corruption ! You are probably still living with your parents sorry I interrupted you playing your games !

And your assumptions are apparently based on gross ignorance and likely a hint of arrogance. Plus a less than full understanding (reading comprehension?) that I said what tin soldier brings to mind, not what the one tin soldier song is. If you are the kind who insult what they do not understand you have just revealed pretty much all I need to know about your character.
    (gee, vent much?)

+Paul Spoerry lol. WTF. I appreciate your silly attempts to put bling on your comments since they lack real substance.

They were not predictions….There is a nice montage on YouTube of the ridiculous "facts" reported by your heroes and each one is a lie.

If you stopped listening to CNN and went to read the actual hacked emails, it lays out the plan to put out fake stories.

I thought I was speaking with people intelligent enough to take the emails into account considering it is the only UNBIASED facts regarding the liberal corruption.

Maybe you should stop rolling your eyes at facts and start learning them.

Hope this helps. Have a great day.

+Truth Monger. lol – yeah, "bling" (whatever that means) since they lack substance and then you simply state there is a video on YouTube. WOW. Yes… there are many montage videos. I suppose you could have linked to it to support whatever it is you're trying to say. Then again… I don't care.
