U.S. officials say Putin helped direct the use of hacked materials
New intelligence shows that Putin became personally involved in the computer breach and directed how hacked material from Democrats was leaked, two senior U.S. officials say.
Putin’s objectives were multifaceted, a high-level intelligence source told NBC News. What began as a ‘vendetta’ against Hillary Clinton morphed into an effort to discredit American politics, especially among foreign allies.
NBC is stating there is evidence Putin personally directed how to use hacked DNC information.
NBC didn't specify what the evidence is, but said two unnamed senior officials have access to information showing Putin personally directed how the information would be used to affect the recent election. They've said that what began as a vendetta against Clinton morphed into an effort to show corruption in American politics and to "split off key American allies by creating the image that the rest of the world couldn't depend on the U.S. to be a credible global leader anymore".
I mean… the last part is true given we elected a fucking megalomaniac, reality TV star to the highest office of the Executive branch of our government. sad face
Well good, fix the issue and move on. You will never stop the hacking, just close the current holes so no more damage can happen from them and keep monitoring for new suspicious activity.
Don't try and act like the USA hasn't been trying to fix elections around the world for decades. We are just as corrupt as any Russian and 3rd world dictator out there.
As for Trump, come up with some serious proof he is tied to it and impeach him. If you don't have proof shut up and move on. Leaving these hanging accusations with no proof is BS.
I don't think the focus is if Trump is involved +Gary Parks. I think it's more that we know they hacked the DNC and RNC but only leaked the RNC showing they had a preference. Either to damage Clinton because she'd maintain the current US position on things like sanctions from Ukrain that the US and EU have imposed) or something along those lines. So the question is what was their specific motive (and for it to be so out in the open)?
There's also rumbles that they are now thinking they're going to target the Germany election… so it might not be just a US thing… but a general destabilizing of the democratic process around the world.
And I agree on the US part. We'd be hard pressed to get much sympathy from much of the rest of the world when we've been doing that (and more) for a very long time.
