For sale: Your private browsing history
Congress passes bill allowing ISPs to sell customer Web surfing data.
The silver lining… a few Republicans decided not for vote for it… but not enough. Essentially, the GOP just sold everything you do online to whoever wants to buy it (likely even the NSA – I mean what's easier than simply following the law and just BUYING your data?!). Among other things up for sale is that ISPs (Charter, Comcast, AT&T, etc… whatever company you get your Internet from) can discover/sell customers' medical conditions by seeing what illnesses and drugs they search for on the Internet.
But… we have private browsing! First of all pr0n lovers… this does shit to cover that type of thing. Your ISP knows what data and sites you request prior to any level of "private browsing" taking place. And it's not just what kind of goat-porn you might be into… what if you're against say… the current government administration? Yeah… for sale too. The linked article goes into how the GOP has no idea how the Internet works. On one hand, they voted to side with big business to sell your privacy, but it's not like comprehension is one sided. Many Dems have no fucking clue but at least weren't willing to just sell it off and a few were very vocal about it.
If you think you have options… you likely don't. Few of us know how to setup of servers that we can use VPN solutions (with zero logging) to protect our privacy. Some MAY choose to hire a third party VPN to mask their activities… but that presumes you can trust that they have no logging. To be clear, I'm not talking about child porn lovers hiding – this is what social networks you use, what medical providers you use, what banking institutions you use, where you research firearms you might want to buy, etc… even if behind SSL (aka encrypted) simply knowing WHICH sites you requests, which happens BEFORE SSL can happen, offers what we in the IT world call "a shitton" of information about take place, be collected, and now sold. Ah but if I do it on my cellphone – NOPE… they provide.your.internet.
I say it all the time. Democrats are pussies (they are) and Republicans are assholes. And they are. They're fucking assholes and will do anything to simply make a profit – often under the guise of 'free markets' or 'individual liberties' or <insert bullshit here>. And if you think you're one of them… profiting because you're a smarty-pants I have news for you: you're in the tax bracket they target because you think you're like them. You're not. Sorry, but you're not and they know and prey on this (this is not a Dem or Independent-free-pass – if you didn't vote… seriously, fuck you – I hope they find your goat-porn).
Just say No! And contact your representative's and demand they say no to this!
Sadly, it's too late… unless you expect Trump to veto. Your GOP reps have already voted to sell all your info.
+Paul Spoerry I thought it wasn't going to the full house until tomarrow! Good grief did I loose a day?
Sadly, no +Monkey Me. "The US House of Representatives voted Tuesday to eliminate ISP privacy rules, following the Senate vote to take the same action last week. The legislation to kill the rules now heads to President Donald Trump for his signature or veto."
+Paul Spoerry I can see where this is going, and it won't be good!
