Global evidence of extreme intuitive moral prejudice against atheists

August 7, 2017 by Paul Spoerry 4 Comments

People Everywhere Think Atheists Are Bad, Says New Study
Religion has played an important part in countless wars, conflicts, terrorist attacks, murders, and genocides, yet people seem to associate it with morality. In fact, these same people—even other atheists—seem to think atheists are the immoral ones.

The recent rise in secularism in Western countries has not overwritten intuitive anti-atheist prejudice. Entrenched moral suspicion of atheists suggests that religion’s powerful influence on moral judgements persists, even among non-believers in secular societies.

Did anyone think that people with delusions of gods and devils would believe anything else?

This is entirely due to religions saying such to their flocks to keep them bringing their children in to be indoctrinated rather than letting them choose. Plenty of fact studies rather than opinion ones show that believer are more likely to commit heinous crimes. Murdering non-believers, murdering spouses because they don't want or can't get a divorce, etc.

FWIW I am not the sort of atheist that would think negative of an atheist. Quite the contrary… I was super floored by the outcome of this study.
