Google's messaging strategy can only described as something like a plate for spaghetti. They got Hangouts, Messenger, Allo, Duo, and for those of us still clinging to it Google Voice. We've been told the big G intends to shift Hangouts to the enterprise market. Why? I have no idea. I still use it for both SMS and Hangouts.
9to5Google claims that Project Fi may be integrated into Google Voice in the near future. Sources close to 9to5Google are telling them that Project Fi integration will be a “keystone” feature with the new Google Voice update… which could signal that it would be the replacement should they shift Hangouts to a more enterprise only feature.
