There's no release date for a consumer version of HoloLens (and the current development kit costs ~$3,000) but man does this demo make me want one. Toronto developer Kenny Wang figured out a way to use the HoloLens to bring Portal to the real world.
He made it so he can place portals in his real-world surroundings. The virtual Companion Cube can be shot through the portal entrance and pop out the portal exit… it even rolls down real stairs.
