Price of Bitcoin has doubled in 2017, and other currencies have jumped even more.

It's exceeded the value of gold. Had you bought $1,000 of Bitcoin in 2010 you’d be worth $35 million right now.

I know it but I don't know whether it is Halal or Haram

Have you heard about "world coin?"

    I don't think you can eat bitcoins, if that's what you're asking…

There are no religious laws against using currency or commodities in any of the three Abrahamic faiths (though each have plenty of warning about being greedy). Unless there is new revelation from new prophets, Bitcoins are safe.

+Adam Alexander I fear it may come under usury or gambling which are unlawful.
A Saudi sheikh on Twitter said that it may be unlawful but he was not sure though

+Adam Alexander Haram and Halal are not limited to eating or meat. Haram is anything that is not permissible. Halal is any act that is permissible

If it's usury or gambling, then so is all investing in commodities.

It's between you and your religious leader, after they've informed themselves of the details. If you can't buy gold or oil, you can't buy bitcoins.

I know, it's just that the words are usually used in the context of eating in western societies, so that's my first thought, just as if I heard the word kosher, I'd think of food first as well.

Matthew puts it quite clearly as he remarks, “Bitcoin is more halal than any currency in wide circulation today but probably still falls short of the strict and narrow definition of money in Islam. Modern sovereign currencies are based on debt with usury – this is strictly prohibited in Islam. Therefore, all modern money is not halal. Bitcoin, on the other hand, is not based on debt – it's based on a proof of work – and this is at least not haram (impermissible).” cointelegraph.com – Is Bitcoin Halal? , Irony When I was checking whether Bitcoin is Halal or or Haram and came to know that it is more Halal than usury based currency system in my own country

People need to stop viewing bitcoin solely as a currency. It's not. I mean you can use bitcoin for currency but the underlying blockchain technology doesn't have to be. Toyota is looking to use blockchain to help autonomous vehicles for instance. Ethereum blockchain focuses on running the programming code of any decentralized application.

Stay away from Bitcoin. It's headed by people who condone pedophilia. Don't take my word for it. Watch the An Open Secret documentary.

Onecoin is the same as bitcoin… It's a cryptocurrency, same as any other. The only differences are in details.

George Washington kept slaves. Does that make the US dollar any less of a currency? A lot of people do deplorable things; that does not make their tools any less useful.

I certainly wouldn't want to hang out with any pedophiles, or do anything specifically to benefit them; nor do I think keeping slaves is alright, even for a revered statesman and general. That doesn't mean the fruits of their labors are any less useful today.

Modern medicine is based on executing petty criminals. It would be stupid to throw away the knowledge of the human body gained from that, but keeping that knowledge around is vastly different from supporting it now, as we instead use non-invasive research, voluntary clinical trials, and research on cadavers is conducted only on those who have died of other means and who have explicitly donated their bodies.

Also, the only documentaries I trust are the ones who are able to cite sources, and which demonstrate reproducible, peer reviewed results. Cosmos fits that description. An Open Secret has the same credibility as Super Size Me and Ancient Aliens.

+Mani khan – just type "onecoin" into Google. There are plenty.

+Adam Alexander – The sources for An Open Secret are the victims as well as the damning words from the pedophiles themselves. It's not science. No peer review is necessary. Besides peer review is BS anyway because 97% of scientists are heavily influenced by politics and it's not so much what you know as who you know. And no so much being right as agreeing with the politically correct views. So, peer review means about as much to me as a politician's opinion.
