Blockstack
Blockstack is a new decentralized internet where users own their data and apps run locally. Take back control over your digital life. A browser portal is all you need to get started.
Dubbed as 'A New Internet for Decentralized Apps' Blockstack claims that the old Internet is broken. Their intent is for a net where applications are server-less and decentralized. Trust is ensured using a public blockchain (yeah… the stuff made famous by Bitcoin).
"Blockchain technology powers this new internet. For the first time ever, you’ll be able to access people, communities, apps, and services built on the blockchain from your browser. This new internet reflects how people interact with each other naturally, as they have for thousands of years. In open marketplaces and societies, people transact directly with other people to offer advice, goods, and services. Human interaction has never needed a middleman. The internet should work how real life works."
They even have a browser coming and examples so you can get up and running locally. Will it take off or fissile like that latest Pied Piper venture… will it rock because of 'middle out' (hehehe) who knows. But the idea is pretty cool.

Craig Laparo says
This is what I'm talking about! Except I want a new physical network that eliminates centralized ISPs.
Paul Spoerry says
I dunno how we get around ISPs… something needs to connect us. Maybe in large, populated areas some type of mesh network between devices?
Craig Laparo says
Yes, and maybe private satellites or balloons or something?
Paul Spoerry says
Satellite would have to get much faster. I know people with satellite connections and it's not very performant. There are a bunch of those mini-sats going up though. Not sure how that'll impact things but it is happening.
