Google+ Sees 778% Increase in US Traffic on Launch Day
We have seen a number of statistics in the last few days on how well Google+ is doing since it’s official launch out of the so-called “field trial”. Today we got numbers from Hitwise, a digital marketing intelligence company, and they show just how successful the Google+ launch was. On Tuesday, the new social network opened its doors to the public, allowing anyone to create an account over the age of 17, instead of requiring an invite to join like they had for the first 3 months. Business Profiles being tested on Google+?
New user profile functionality might indicate that Google+ is close to getting brand profiles (aka business profiles).
We know that back in July Google began building a set of “non-user entities” (companies, brands, etc.) who were selected to help with the setup and testing of brand profiles; Ford and MTV were specifically mentioned. For a short period of time you could apply to be in the test group, but the “Google+ Entity Profile Application” has since been disabled. Google+ gets games: Angry Birds included
Google announced Thursday that it has started rolling out games on Google+; including Angry Birds, Bejeweled Blitz and Zynga Poker. Google is clearly aiming to take their newest effort in the social networking space into Facebook’s territory. With today’s announcement, they’re officially one step closer.
Games are a huge draw on Facebook, keeping a high level of user engagement (and time spent on) the site. It makes sense for Google to incorporate them into its service… we knew it was coming. [Read more…]
